About Us

Emily and Matt

We really wanted to provide an opportunity for our kids to be a part of the farm, to raise them in this environment where they are able to learn what honest, hard work is. To know, appreciate, and respect where your food truly comes from. The character, values, and memories they will gain along the way are priceless.

Emily grew up on a small farm in Peculiar, MO, where her parents raised a variety of cattle breeds, primarily Angus and Braunvieh, for hobby as well as providing their family and friends with a local beef source. Emily grew up in Peculiar her whole life until she graduated high school and moved away to attend college at William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, earning her undergraduate degrees in Organizational Communication and Psychology. Emily has a strong passion for learning and continued her education with a Master’s of Communication from the University of Central Missouri (Warrensburg, MO) and a Master’s of Marriage & Family Therapy from Friends University (Lenexa, KS).

Along with helping on the farm, Emily is a professor at Johnson County Community College teaching Communication courses such as Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communications and Work Place Skills. In the past, Emily also operated a private counseling practice as a Licensed Clinical Marriage & Family Therapist that served clients in the Johnson County, KS area.

Matt is originally from Alabama (don’t worry, he’s an Auburn fan) but moved a fair amount as a result of his Dad being a pilot, ending up in Lenexa, KS in 1989. Matt graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in Overland Park, KS, attended Johnson County Community College where he got his associate’s degree, then transferred to Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO where he received his bachelor’s degree in business.

Matt is a project manager for Insco Industries, more specifically the resinous flooring division.  When asked if he ranches full time he jokes (sort of) that he works full time so he can afford to raise cattle.

Emily and Matt stay busy raising their three beautiful children, Elsa, Reagan and Milton, who are very active in sports and 4H.  Trying to find a balance between sports and showing cows (not to mention everything else in life) is a challenge, but somehow we manage to pull it off.

There are more than 6 generations of farmers/ranchers in our family and we are extremely proud to carry on the tradition.
